Today, #IWD is celebrated all over the world, and as a modern country, we too in Turks and Caicos Islands share in celebrating Internationals Women Day. I choose to highlight the women in media on this #IWD2019 who continues to risk their reputation and sometimes are unfairly criticized for simply being the messenger of the news!
Freedom of the Press is a fundamental part to a democratic society. Free speech and a free press together allow these women to obtain information from a wide range of sources that are not dictated to or restricted by the government, so that the people can make decisions, develop opinions, and communicate their views on the information we receive from these women in media whether it be via TV, Radio and Print, inclusive of newspaper, whatsapp and daily news letter.
I wish to highlight the women in media who continues to act as a beacon of hope for girls and women whose dream it is to someday be in media which often is a thankless job!
It is women like Lynette Thomas, Deandrea Hamilton, Nadidja Parker, Delana Isles, Easher Parker, Latoya Walkin, Todeline Defralien and Omega Sonia Simmons that continues to be torch bearers of a free press and continues to pave the way for young aspiring females who wish to join the profession of media. As a father raising girls I wish to encourage the girls and women of TCI to be inspired by these women in media!#internationalswomensday #raisinggirls#strongwomen
