On July 2nd, F Chambers Managing Partner Mark A Fulford and Human Rights Attorney Sheena Mair attended a private audience with Human Rights Director Sabrina Green and visiting Northern Ireland Human Rights CEO Dr. David Russell at the Office of the Human Rights Director.
The meeting was apart of the three days of events launching Business and Human Rights hosted by the Human Rights Director Ms. Green, who sought to raise the level of awareness in the Turks and Caicos Islands for the important work of the Human Rights commission. At the meeting Attorney Fulford introduced Sheena Mair as the Lead Attorney for human rights issues with F Chambers whose focus has been from the time she arrived and was called to the TCI Bar to fight for the rights of those whose human rights have been infringed upon.
Sheena Mair gave a brought overview of the list of the Human Rights infractions matters that we are dealing with indicating that we are still at pre-action stage corresponding but these issues are so grave, we do not intend to litigate them via correspondence. They are flagrant breaches of the articles of the constitution and will be dealt with firmly and within the confines of the law.
The Turks and Caicos Islands Human Rights Commission under Director Sabrina Greene leadership has developed a guide for businesses to assist them in meeting their obligations to human rights in the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) and across the world. Both the Turks and Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association and the Chamber of Commerce have agreed to partner with the Commission in rolling out this initiative to businesses across the Turks and Caicos Islands. This guide will be accompanied by human rights training and is available to all businesses throughout the TCI.
Managing Partner commented – “Huge congratulations to Director Sabrina Green for launching the business and Human Rights initiative, this is a reflection of a Director who understands the importance of Human Rights in a nation, and this initiative will serve the business community of the Turks and Caicos well.”
H R Director Green commented: – “ It is our hope that all businesses will engage with this new programme which builds upon their commitment to human rights and help to create a fairer and more sustainable society”
