As she steps into her new position, Ms. Mickia Mills, the inaugural Coroner of the Turks and Caicos Islands, boasts an impressive nine-year legal background. She possesses a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, along with a Legal Education Certificate from the esteemed Hugh Wooding Law School, where she received specialized training in Alternative Dispute Resolution.
In 2013, Ms. Mills embarked on her legal career as an Associate at Nisbet’s Legal Chambers in St. Kits and Nevis. During her tenure there, she focused on both civil and criminal litigation, with a particular specialization in handling serious crimes, including complex cases such as murder and sexual assault.
Since 2022, Ms. Mills has held the prestigious role of Senior Public Prosecutor at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. In this capacity, she has managed a diverse portfolio encompassing customs and
immigration cases. Notably, she has actively contributed to various training initiatives, including her involvement in the Prosecutors Empowerment Program during regional training and her role as a faculty member at the Judicial Education Institute, where she conducted police training sessions on the topic of “Making Investigations Trial Ready.”
